TRACK & TRACE
Are you ready?
From 20th May 2019, the tobacco regulations are changing again and Parfetts are here to help.
What is Track & Trace?
Track & Trace is the next phase of the European tobacco legislation that first came into effect in May 2016. The aim of Track & Trace is to stop illicit tobacco entering the supply chain. Anyone selling cigarettes and hand-rolling tobacco products will need to register for their own unique operator ‘codes’ in order to purchase and sell tobacco, so all sales of tobacco can be tracked and traced back to where they came from.
What do you need to do?
The regulations require all retailers to have an Economic Operator Identifier Code (their own unique code registered to their business) and a Facility Identifier Code (a unique code for each store or premises which sells tobacco) in order to purchase cigarettes and hand-rolling tobacco products from 20th May 2019 onwards.
To obtain the codes, retailers must apply to a government appointed ID issuer before 20th May 2019.
